The Sunday of the early May bank holiday weekend saw not one but two softball events in Swindon.
Las Panteras’ and Jaguars parent club Panthers held an open day at the Nationwide Sports Pavilion’s beautiful field and attracted players from as far as the Bristol, Cardiff and Solent Softball Leagues.
New and experienced players alike enjoyed a whole day of softball, eating and drinking. While the quality of the play arguably decreased as the afternoon went on, the fun definitely went up!
Meanwhile, inside the Pavilion itself, Pete Saunders and Chris Lunn from the Bristol Softball League ran a rules clinic to help train umpires and increase the knowledge of the game within the league.
The session lasted 6 hours and included both practical sessions outside on the field and theory sessions inside, followed by a chance to put all that was learned to the test by umpiring part of the games going on during the open day.
