Who We Are & Why We Play
Aries are committed to playing softball the way it’s meant to be played: equally, together and with a sense of fun. Our focus on team spirit means we support and develop each other. Having fun together is the true victory.
Our History
Aries softball team was originally established in 2012 after the retirement of the Cyclones team. Originally called the VisionAries, the team was composed of a few of the old Cyclones players and some newer recruits, one of which worked for an optical company (hence the name) whose employees made up most of the team.
The VisionAries slowly found their feet in the league but, one by one, all but one of optical company’s employees eventually left. The combination of this, the influx of new blood into the team and everyone being fed up with the mouthful that was ‘VisionAries’ when shouting encouragement to each other saw a re-brand in 2014. Gone were the old blue jerseys, the old logo and the VisionAries name. Aries was born.
Sporting black jerseys, a new logo and more experience in the squad, Aries fared much better in the league and even started to enter weekend tournaments. By 2016, the team was a mixture of age, nationalities, backgrounds, abilities and experience and with a little hard work finished runners up in the league for a third time. This ignited a passion within the team to go that one step further and in 2017 we won our first Swindon Softball League title, which we also defended in 2018.
What The Future Holds
In 2019 we are looking forward to focusing back on to the fun side of the sport and we plan on entering more weekend tournaments for this reason. After all, it’s having fun together that really counts.
