Week Eleven Recap: Wins for Both Panthers’ Teams by Mercy Rule

There were wins for Las Panteras and Jaguars this week as both teams continued their recent good form by inflicting mercy-rule victories on the Spitfires and Dodgers, respectively.

Las Panteras vs Spitfires

Diamond One saw league leaders Las Panteras take on league newbies Spitfires.

Las Panteras were the Sptifres’ first ever opponents twelve weeks ago and the away team were hoping for a better result than the 25-6 scoreline that day.

It could be argued that both teams would have been happy with the first two innings. Las Panteras shut out Spitfires in those two innings, however the away team restricted Las Panteras to five runs over the same time.

Having five rookie runs to play with meant that the game was essentially a tie at this point. After getting on the board for the first time in the top of the third inning, Las Panteras did the damage by scoring 14 runs in the bottom of the third.

Spitfires were hoping for a big fourth inning to reduce the deficit, however, despite winning the inning, the two runs they scored were not enough to close the gap.

Las Panteras shut out Spitfires in the top of the fifth inning and scored four runs themselves in the bottom, thus securing the mercy victory, 25-9.

Jaguars vs Dodgers

Jaguars vs Dodgers was the action on Diamond Two this week in anothe rematch of Week One.

Jaguars won in a one-sided result that day and Dodgers were hoping to avoid a similar result this week. It wasn’t to be, however, as the Jaguars shut the Dodgers out for the first two innings and scored five runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning.

Despite pulling a run back at the top of the third inning, the Dodgers’ comeback was put on hold when the Jaguars scored eight runs in the bottom.

The Dodgers would not score again in the next two innings with the Jaguars scoring five more over that stretch to secure the mercy victory, 18 runs to 3.
